This organization was established in 1877 and incorporated as a non-profit organization under the laws of the State of Illinois. The programs, services, events and new activities sponsored by I.A.D. continue to attract more new members everyday. A growing number of people joining this organization are proof that I.A.D. is truly meeting the needs in the community.

IAD strives to promote advancement of the social, educational, and economic well-being of the deaf and hard of hearing citizens of Illinois.
The Vision: IAD advocates for equality, full communication access, and cultural preservation of the deaf and hard of hearing people in Illinois.

What are the Goals of IAD?
The primary goal of I.A.D. is to provide activities in the general community that are available and accessible to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing population, as well as the general public. I.A.D. supports special services such as sign language interpreters, to break down the barriers of activities in society, so that Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals are welcome to participate. I.A.D. stands by the idea that Deaf and Hard of Hearing people can participate, with great success in all community activities.
Management:
The I.A.D. is managed by the officers (that are elected at the Biennial Conference), the chapter representatives and affiliated non-profits/for-profits organizations. All officers, chapter representatives, affiliated non-profits/for-profits organizations serve without pay. I.A.D., a non-profit association, is supported by membership dues and contributions
