Top 6 Priorities

Official 2007 IAD Conference Priorities

Members at the 2007 IAD Conference voted on the top 10 motions from the Forums to be sent to the IAD General Meeting.  From these 10 motions, IAD members selected the top 5 motions to become the 2007-2009 priorities of the IAD.  Because of a tie in votes, we have 6 priorities.

2007-ITASCA-ADVOCACY-03:
Title: Communication Access Fund for Licensed Professionals
Motion: IAD shall advocate for the establishment of a Communication Access Fund within two different licensed professional gropus; doctors & lawyers, funded by their license fees.

2007-ITASCA-ADVOCACY-08:
Title: ASL Recognized in Language
Motion: IAD shall establish a committee to push for state recognition of American Sign Language (ASL) as a language.
Proposed by: Marilyn Harbison
 
2007-ITASCA-ADVOCACY-09:
Title: ASL Teacher Hiring
Motion: If American Sign Language is recognized as a language in the State of Illinois, the IAD shall advocate  for the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and high education institutions to make an effort to hire deaf teachers to teach American Sign Language.

2007-ITASCA-OUTREACH-04:
Title: Partnership of Events
Motion: IAD shall set up at least six (6) outreach events to create partnerships with local deaf and hard of hearing organizations to recruit individuals and organizations for membership and to share resources among organizations.

2007-ITASCA-ADVOCACY-02:
Title:  Director of Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services
Motion: IAD shall advocate for the filling of the now vacant position of Director of Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services within the Illinois Division of Mental Health.

2007-ITASCA-ADVOCACY-04:
Title: Substance Abuse Prevention
Motion: IAD shall advocate for an increase in funding to the Substance and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program in Illinois for deaf and hard of hearing people.
