  House Bill 5493  recognizes American Sign Language (ASL) as the language of the deaf community and to authorize and encourage public and independent schools, including college and universities, to offer ASL as a course of study and to accept ASL credits as foreign-language credits.  Final Action Deadline extended to May 9.
